The Perth Symphonic Chorus is a Perth-based choir comprising almost 100 skilled and passionate individuals who have impressed and mesmerised audiences throughout Australia and overseas over the last 20 years. The Chorus hosts an annual event ‘Summer Sing’ and this year have partnered with Alzheimer’s WA to present Gospel and all that Jazz. Part proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to the Alzheimer’s WA choir.
Pack a picnic and bring the family for an evening of Gospel and Jazz with a live band, dance and song in Winthrop Hall at the University of Western Australia. There is also the opportunity to join the Chorus on stage and sing as part of the choir – no auditions necessary!
Music is a wonderful way to improve wellbeing, especially for people living with dementia. UWA Emeritus Professor Alan Harvey; a neuroscientist, musician and member of the Perth Symphonic Chorus, recently spoke on ABC radio about the benefits of singing. Listen to the interview.
Professor Harvey and our own CEO, Rhonda Parker, were recently featured in an article in the Western Suburbs Weekly where they talk about funding cuts to the Alzheimer’s WA choir and how important music can be for people living with dementia.
