Open Day at Mary Chester House


Mary Chester House Open DayMary Chester House, located in Shenton Park, hosted a successful Open Day in November, with more than 100 people attending. People living with dementia and their families were able to explore the facility and enjoyed a barbeque lunch.

Mary Chester House has been providing day respite for people living with dementia for over 23 years. Thanks to donations, Alzheimer’s WA recently refurbished the house to offer overnight respite.

Alzheimer’s WA CEO Rhonda Parker said, “Alzheimer’s WA has been evolving the model of dementia care and support in our three day centres, including Mary Chester House, over a number of years. At Mary Chester House we have created a stimulating, familiar space where clients feel useful and are engaged in daily activities that provide meaningful engagement and friendship.

“Alzheimer’s WA are advocates for those on the dementia journey. We work extensively across the aged and disability sectors and we focus our efforts where we will have the greatest impact on the lived experience of those with dementia.”

The Open Day was held on Saturday 18 November from 11.30am until 2.00pm.
