Alzheimer’s WA Leadership Team

Rhonda Parker
Chief Executive Officer

Rhonda has been a leading contributor to community development in policy, program and practice in Australia for almost 20 years, particularly in the area of ageing, ageing well, and aged care. She is a former Minister in the Western Australian Government, where she had responsibility for community development portfolios, among others. She led the development of the first National Healthy Ageing Strategy in 2000, and was Australia’s first Federal Aged Care Commissioner.

Danielle Wrench
General Manager, Corporate Services

As the General Manager of Alzheimer’s WA, Danielle Wrench provides strategic leadership and management across the corporate service functions of the organisation.

Tara Walsh
Department Manager, Client Services

As Department Manager for Client Services, Tara focuses the provision of supports and services that are relevant and valuable to consumers throughout their journey with dementia, offering a suite of exemplar care and support programs.

Caroline Horlock
Department Manager, Consultancy and Education

Caroline Horlock has recently been appointed as the Department Manager for Education and Consultancy. For 3 years she has been leading Alzheimer’s WA’s cutting edge capacity building, consultancy services to successful outcomes for staff, clients/consumers.

Jason Burton
Head of Dementia Practice and Innovation

Jason’s role with Alzheimer’s WA is Head of Dementia Practice and Innovation. He leads the organisations focus on developing innovative dementia care philosophy and practice, research and establishing evidence based services and emerging sector partnerships.


Board of Directors

Craig Masarei – Chairman

Craig Masarei is the Chairman of Alzheimer’s WA and has held this position for the past 18 years.

Craig is the Chief Legal Officer for the Water Corporation and the Chairman of Water Corporation Superannuation Pty Ltd.

Craig has a Bachelor of Jurisprudence and Bachelor of Laws from the University of WA.

Craig holds memberships with Australian Corporate Lawyers Association, Law Council of Australia, Law Society WA and Australia Superannuation Funds Association.

The issues of corporate governance, financial and risk management are a focus for Craig.

Jenny Rogers – Deputy Chair

Jenny is Director and shareholder of R M Black Morgan Management Pty Ltd, that trades under the licence of Patersons Wealth Management. She is a Director and shareholder of 197 Adelaide Terrace Unit Trust, Director and shareholder of family company for 47 years.

Jenny has managed the finances of many private and corporate clients for the past 32 years. She has chaired the National Breast Cancer Foundation – Global Illumination for 10 years. Jenny has been a Director for Lotterywest for 8 years and was Chair of their medical Research Programme with discretionary funding. She has previously held the position of President of Women Chiefs of Enterprise, WA, a worldwide association relating to all women’s interests.

For the past 9 years she has held the position of Vice Chair of Alzheimer’s Australia WA along with chair of Alzheimer’s fundraising committee and also chaired the Alzheimer’s Disease International Conference held in Perth.

Ian Wells – Treasurer

Mr Wells was appointed Company Secretary at ASX listed Fortescue Metals Group Limited‎ in February 2015, after joining Fortescue in 2010 as Group Manager, Treasury and Business Planning.

With more than 20 years’ experience in senior finance and management roles in the mining, energy infrastructure and healthcare industries, Mr Wells was previously Chief Financial Officer at Singapore Power subsidiary Jemena Limited, and also held senior executive roles at Alinta Limited.

Mr Wells holds a Bachelor of Business in Accounting, is a Fellow of CPA Australia, a Certified Finance and Treasury Professional, and a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He is also a Director of not-for-profit Alzheimer’s Australia WA and a member of the Salvation Army business advisory committee.

Michael Preece – Company Secretary

Michael is a Registered Nurse and has 20 years’ experience in strategic, operational and senior management positions within the health care industry. Michael’s experience includes Director of Nursing, Executive Officer, National Risk and HR Manager, Business Development, GP and Radiology practice management, Health Insurance funding management and management of residential aged care facilities. Michael is currently employed as CEO of the Maurice Zeffert Home, based in Dianella. Prior to moving into health care Michael was a maintenance engineer in the RAAF for 13 years.

Sean Maher – Honorary Medical Director

Dr Sean Maher is a Geriatrician from Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital’s Department of Rehabilitation and Aged Care. Dr Maher is an Honorary Research Fellow at Curtin University, and a Federal Councillor for the Australian and New Zealand Society for Geriatric Medicine since 2005. He was the Federal Secretary of the society from 2008 – 2012.

Arnold Stroobach – Director

CEO Mineler Pty Ltd

Mr. Stroobach has 27 years of experience in the field of (medical) technology, innovation and high-knowlegde/high-grow companies of which 18 years as director/CEO. Furthermore he is an active player in the field of commercialisation of new ideas, Venture Capital and setting up new businesses.

In Australia Mr. Stroobach managed Technology Park in Bentley (WA), Technology Park in Brisbane (QLD) and was Director of the ICT Incubator EiR in Perth. He is one of the founders and Chairman of the successful co-working space organisation Spacecubed in Perth, where teams and individuals can grow their businesses in a supportive, collaborative environment.

In 2009, Arnold was appointed as the Honorary Consul of The Netherlands to Western Australia. In this role he actively supports the economic development and cultural ties between the two countries.

Mr. Stroobach holds a Master of Science degree in Medical Informatics (combination of Medical School and Computer Science) from the Free University in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. He also holds an Executive MBA from IBO in Zeist, The Netherlands. Mr. Stroobach was in 2008 appointed as Adjunct Associate Professor at Curtin University Business School.

Bronte Parkin – Director

BAppSc (Physics)(Curtin); BEd (UWA); MACE (Life Member)

Following his wife Glenda’s diagnosis of younger onset dementia in 2010, Bronte – jointly with Glenda – has been an active consumer advocate for Alzheimer’s Australia WA, giving speeches and presenting at conferences, to community groups and the media. He has been a member of various Alzheimer’s Australia WA consumer reference groups and supports Glenda with her membership of the national Alzheimer’s Australia Dementia Advisory Committee (AADAC).

Bronte retired from the Western Australian public sector in 2013 after almost 40 years’ experience in education policy, planning, research and regulation, corporate governance and strategic resource management across government and non-government schooling, higher education and international education – the last 15 years of which were at senior executive service level. His career included teaching secondary school general science, physics and chemistry, and included secondments to the Melbourne-based Australian Council for Educational Research and to an education policy unit attached to the office of a former State Minister for Education and Training.

He is a committee member of an exercise physiology gym-based support group of the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA) for men surviving prostate cancer, and an active participant in the exercise physiology unit which operates from the Subiaco Football Club gymnasium.

Jenny Watt – Director

Jenny’s background is nursing. I was a carer for my husband, a Specialist General Surgeon ,for 10 years. Alan was diagnosed with Alzhiemers at 52 .At the time we had 3 children at home aged 19, 17 and 13.

She has welcomed the chances she’s  had to talk to medical students and professional carers on the impact it had on myself, Alan and our children both positive and negative, during the 10 years I was Alan’s carer.
