Dementia Training AustraliaCHCAGE005 Provide Support to People Living with Dementia

Dementia Essentials is the requisite training for anyone working with people living with dementia.

‘Dementia Essentials’ is a Commonwealth funded initiative delivered by Alzheimer’s WA on behalf of Dementia Training Australia offering fully funded education to workers who provide support to people living with dementia.

In this accredited course, you will learn how to incorporate therapeutic communication techniques; apply a person-centred approach and develop useful strategies to respond to changed behaviours.

By successfully completing this nationally recognised unit, you will gain a comprehensive knowledge of dementia and receive a formal Statement of Attainment.

On completion of this Accredited Course you will have had the opportunity to:

  • Examine the nature of dementia and its impacts
  • Learn more about person-centred care and effective communication strategies
  • Identify unmet needs and develop effective responses
  • Develop activities to promote well being
  • Anticipate workplace issues and identify the community supports and services available.

The Commonwealth funded Dementia Training Australia (DTA) consortium, of which Alzheimer’s WA is a member, is delivering the Dementia Essentials Program. The consortium is led by the University of Wollongong, and brings together the expertise of Australia’s leading dementia educators.

Delivery:

The course can be delivered at your workplace in a format that is convenient to your organisation and meets your staff’s needs. There will also be a number of courses being held across the country, please check education events in your State or Territory or contact your local education team. The Statement of Attainment will be issued by Alzheimer’s Australia Vic. RTO Code 2512.

Participant requirements:

To be eligible for the Dementia Essentials program, you must be directly working with people living with dementia and be able to be supervised interacting with 2 people living with dementia to satisfy the workplace assessment criteria. If a person cannot be supervised, they can receive a certificate of attendance.

Participants must attend all 3 days.

Cost:

This course is fully funded by the Commonwealth Government as part of its Dementia Training Program initiative.
