Alzheimer’s WA congratulates two of its members who were awarded an Order of Australia in the 2019 Australia Day honours.
Lynette Chester (pictured left) was awarded the Order of Australia for ‘significant service to community health, particularly to people living with dementia and their families’. Lynette was a founding member of Alzheimer’s WA, served on the Board from 1984 to 1997 and held the positions of President, Secretary, Vice President and Treasurer during that time. Lynette was made a life member in 2007. Mary Chester House is named after Lynette’s mother, Mary.
Jo Barker (pictured right) was awarded the Order of Australia for ‘significant service to medicine, and to medical education, particularly to occupational therapy’. Jo, now retired, is an Emeritus Professor at Curtin University, has served on the Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital Board and was its first female chair, and has held other Board and community roles. Jo is an Alzheimer’s WA Advocate and, together with her husband David, worked tirelessly to fundraise for the backyard landscaping at Ella’s House. Sadly, David passed away suddenly early last year.
The contribution of people like Lynette and Jo illustrates how our vision and mission is shared by so many. We owe them much for their selfless support.
